[PS017] Subterminal – Bright Dawn Sketches

Bright dawn sketches is an ambient album focused on exploring different environments, from urban solitude, sirens crying, ocean waves crashing in the shores and sunbeams reflected in the clouds. Some instruments were used (a crackle box and a sruti box), some composition techniques were also used (for example, minimalism and time stretching) as well as some software (iphone) and voice. All the tracks contained in this release were made with some concepts in mind.

[EdP018] Blue Hell | Shane Morris - The Words | Step Away

Originally recorded Saturday, September 26th, 2009 as a live streaming
collaborative performance on radio.electro-music.com between Blue Hell
(The Netherlands) and Shane Morris (USA). The performance was nearly five
consecutive hours of live improvisational electronic music. There was
nothing pre-conceived, arranged, or composed for this performance. In
fact, neither performer has ever physically met or spoken to the other
performer. This recording is entirely the product of internet relay chat,
streaming audio, and a friendship that exists beyond a material realm.
This recording is the highlights from that session boiled down and edited
to two hours of engaging experimental electronics.

The mechanism to do the streaming jams has come to be known as, The
Washing Machine. It is a system designed by Blue Hell to mix multiple
streaming musicians around the world together in near real-time audio
and combined into one stereo channel mix that is broadcasted live at
electro-music.com. Blue Hell will mix the streamers, apply post effects,
and record the final output as the mixed stream is directed to the radio
server. The Washing Machine concept very much embraces Cagian ideals of
randomness, chaos, and improvisation.

For this session, Blue Hell used two Nord Modular G2 rack units, a Nord
Modular Classic, laptop, iphone, and a Yamaha WX11 midisax. Shane Morris
used a Roland MC-909, Digitech Vocal 300 processor, and a vocal
microphone.

[xs-66] BpOlar - subversive vespers

BpOlar is son of a jazz musician and as such he was raised from a very young age listening to the jazz masters, and although is approach diverted from this it is part of his background and as such is part of his aproach to the berlin electronic music scene. BpOlar is also a multidisciplinary artist, creating digital drawings and paintings and 3D video clips to document his music and for live usage, or the opposite (makes music to illustrate video). One of these works is presented together with this release.

BpOlar music is strongly focused on creating textures, with a close relation with ambient music. This textures are nonetheless rough and arid, and lead us to alien environments where beats, noises and voices all create suspense moments, where you feel alert all the way through. This release is composed of four tracks and a bonus movie, that complements this particular vision.

If you pay attention to BpOlar work you'll find, in his drawings/paintings, movies and music, traces of this imaginary world, where the central element is the feeling of unsettlement.
